Mind Body Spirit Festival 25th May 2011

Deep Listening - Yoga & Sound

I attended the Mind Body Spirit Festival in London and enjoyed watching Lisa Sanfilippo and Jason Kalidas. They combined music and Yoga together. Listening to the music was a relaxing experience. Yoga is a good exercise to do, as it keeps your attention on what you are doing (Keeps you in the moment) and helps the body with fitness.  Lisa was very flexible, and I was amazed at some of the movements she achieved, its amazing what the physical body is capable of.

Aura Reading

I have been able to see my Aura, but always wanted to confirm that the colour was Turquoise.  I managed to get a photo of my Aura and found out that I had been right in thinking that my arms had Turquoise around them and my head had yellow and green around the top of it.  I also received a Aura Reading, which was quite insightful, I was told that I was very communicative and must take care of my emotions. This reading was quite significant to me at the time. The Aura can change from minute to minute according to your emotions, but it is said that there is always a base colour that stays the same.

Diana Cooper

Healing Angels were walking around the Festival and a member of my family was fortunate enough
to get a healing from one of them. She also held my hand for a short amount of time and I felt warmth and love from this lady.

I also picked up a Meditation CD ' Meditation to connect with Archangel Michael' I listened to this and found it to be so relaxing and protecting.  The CD focuses on the Throat Chakra which is the blue Chakra and explains how this is related to freedom of speech. We can use the Colour blue, and the Gem Stones Aquamarine, Turquoise and
Chalcedony to help us clear negative energy within the Throat Chakra.

Viewing Art

I was moved when viewing a film during a Study Day with the NHS. The short film was a collection of paintings created by patients who had taken part in Art Therapy.  The combination of art and music touched my emotions.  This experience shows that we could be viewing a work of art, or creating one, but we all get touched emotionally in some way.

Sharing our experiences bring us together and that is what makes us stronger and what helps our spirits to grow.

Art Therapy at the Nhs - Ginas' Art Therapy Story

This is an example of how Art Therapy is helping others within the NHS.  Just by drawing we are expressing our inner personal feelings. Expression helps us with our problems.  Art classes can be a way of building on our creative side and on our spirituality.

Art helps us to stay in the moment whilst creating and learning from one another. Many of us open up whilst taking part in Art Sessions.  Some of us find it meditative and this is also how it helps the spirit and mind to relax.

Our spirit - Imagine an onion

I took part in a course yesterday and I was given this concept of describing our spirit.
Compare your spirit to an onion, it has many layers.

The most visible characteristics are on the surface in the first layer. These are the most public parts of you, that everyone sees, even the people you meet that don't know you very well.

The second layer is under the public layer and is what fewer people see.
These are the things that you are happy for friends and colleagues to know about.
The people who know about this layer know you in a public role and will be able to describe what kind of a person you are.

The third layer is more personal and only a few people who are very close to you know about this layer.
This layer may include your upbringing or background as well as your present life, feelings or experiences you are anxious about or situations that leave you feeling vulnerable.

The final part is the middle of the onion. Your heart, the heart of who you are. The real you.

Cultural & Spiritual Awareness @ Mount Vernon Hospital / Michael Sobell House 27th April 2011

Whilst taking part in this interesting course I was given a poem. This made me think of my Grandmother, who is now in a residential home and is in her 90s. She is living a long life and I love her with all my heart...

What do you see, nurses, what do you see?
What are you thinking when you're looking at me?
A crabby old woman, not very wise,
Uncertain of habit with faraway eyes?

Who dribbles her food and makes no reply
When you say in a loud voice "I do wish you'd try!"
Who seems not to notice the things that you do,
And forever is losing a stocking or shoe.....

Who, resisting or not, lets you do as you will,
With bathing and feeding, the long day to fill...
Is that what you're thinking? Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse; your not looking at me.

I'll tell you who I am as I sit here so still,
As I do at your bidding, as I eat at your will.
I'm a small child of ten... with a father and mother,
Brothers and sisters, who love one another.

A young girl of sixteen, with wings on her feet,
Dreaming that soon now a lover she'll meet.
A bride soon at twenty-my heart gives a leap,
Remembering the vows that I promised to keep.

At twenty-five now, I have young of my own,
Who need me to guide and a secure happy home.
A woman of thirty, my young now grown fast,
Bound to each other with ties that should last.

At forty, my young sons have grown and are gone,
But my man's beside me to see I don't mourn.
At fifty once more, babies play round my knee,
Again we know children, my loved one and me.

Dark days are upon me, my husband is dead;
I look at the future, I shudder with dread.
For my young are all rearing young of their own,
And I think of the years and the love that I've known.

I'm now an old woman...and nature is cruel;
'tis just to make old age look like a fool.
The body, it crumbles, grace and vigour depart,
There is now a stone where I once had a heart.

But inside this old carcass a young girl still dwells,
And now and again my battered heart swells.
I remember the joys, I remember the pain,
And I'm loving and living life over again.

I think of the years ....all too few, gone too fast,
And accept the stark fact that nothing can last.
So open your eyes, people nothing can last.
Not a crabby old woman; look closer....see ME!!

It is said that an old lady died in a hospital in Dundee, Scotland and this poem was found in her belongings. Elderly people are just the same as everyone else. It is the soul within that counts.
